Proactivity isn’t always easy.
So it wouldn’t surprise me if you can identify with that situation where you’re not moving forwards or backwards in life, but standing still.
The remedy for this scenario is being proactive, or as some put it, “getting your ass in gear”.
But doing this is difficult – it requires effort, which has to come from somewhere.
You need a motivation.
At the end of the day, if you don’t have a purpose for doing something, then you can’t expect to carry it through to the best of your ability.
Keeping in mind that proactivity is one of the two essential pillars of success, you need to find your motivation, so you can harness power to work towards completing your objectives.
There are a few things that motivate me.
But in this article, I will only cover the number one thing that keeps me grinding towards my objectives, my ‘proactivity mindset’.
I do warn you though, the concepts considered in this post aren’t for the faint of heart.

My Proactivity Mindset
Currently, I have the belief that there is no life after death. (I told you this would be deep)
You may, or may not, agree.
However, even if you do believe in life after death, it’s very likely that it won’t be as you are living now.
So, as none of us really knows what happens when the time comes, we should make the most of the time we know we have left.
At its core, that’s really what my ‘proactivity mindset’ is all about – making the most of our lives.
Doctor Strange is quoted as saying:
‘We are made of matter and nothing more. We’re just another tiny, momentary speck in an indifferent universe.’
I believe this to be the truth.
Essentially, this quote is saying is that there is, in a broad sense, no meaning to life. Noting matters, as we are such an insignificant piece in a universe that is anyway indifferent.
So, according to these ideas:
- Nothing that we have ever done, or will do, really matters.
- We are all insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
- We are only around for the blink of an eye in the entire history of the universe.
You may have just crapped your pants.
And look, I don’t blame you.
But if you keep in mind that we have finite time on this planet, and that nothing really matters, we can use it to our advantage to keep us proactive and motivated.
Using these Ideas to YOUR ADVANTAGE for Motivation
“One day, we will die.” – Gives you motivation to start working towards your desires.
The one thing that I dread more than death is having regret before it happens.
Think of those people you see everyday, carrying out the same mundane routine, unhappy and saddened by the state of their life.
The harsh fact is that their entire existence and time on this planet will likely be wasted, and they will probably never fulfil their dreams and desires.
They are wasting their life away, a life which you get only one shot at.
This fact alone gives me the motivation to ACT. I don’t want to be in that situation.
If you aren’t proactive in getting what you want, then you will be forever stuck leading an unhappy life, and will be filled with regret in your last days.
I beg you, if you’re in a hard spot, try to get out of it in any way you can.
You deserve to live a happy and fulfilled life, just like everyone else. But it doesn’t happen by itself.
You have to make it happen by being proactive and seeking out the completion of your objectives.
“We are on this planet for so little time.” – Gives you the motivation to start working towards your desires NOW.
Proactivity is really a preventative, long term measure, and is just as much about ‘doing something now‘ as it is about ‘doing something’.
It scares me to think of how quickly days and years pass, with the knowledge that soon I won’t be in the same position that I am now.
We shouldn’t spend our limited time going in a straight line.
This gives me the motivation to ACT NOW, before it is too late.
If not now, then when?
“Nothing matters to the universe.” – Gives you the confidence and strength to act on your desires.
It’s true that, to the universe, nothing matters.
It simply doesn’t care if you reach your objectives, if you’re an important CEO, or even if you’re super famous.
However, again, we can use this to our advantage, and is powerful at crushing uncertainty and fear around being proactive.
Take going to the gym as an example.
Obtaining an incredible physique has always been an objective of mine, but something I have never proactively seeked out.
I had the motivation from the prior two points, but didn’t have the confidence and strength to put it in motion.
But I realised that, really, nothing matters.
If I screwed up at the gym and looked like an idiot, who cares? Even the biggest screw up would be insignificant in the grand scheme of things. It would simply not matter to anyone.
Even though nothing matters to the universe, some things DO matter to us – our loved ones, our careers, our reputation, our objectives… they all matter to us.
We shouldn’t let insignificant worries of failure, which you may think matter (but don’t to ANYONE or ANYTHING) get in the way of things that DO matter to us.
So, to recap…
- One day we will die. Use this fact to start work on completing your objectives, and becoming happy and fulfilled.
- Our lives are really short, in the grand scheme of things. You don’t have time to waste. You must start completing your objectives NOW.
- Nothing really matters to the universe. Don’t let your fears, whatever they may be, get in the way of obtaining things that matters to you.
